Our Kiwanis Club is grounded in service. Here are some things that we have done/do:
The Kiwanis Club of Gloucester Township-Blackwood is dedicated to improving our neighborhoods through community service targeted primarily at the need of children. In 2016, we formed a partnership with the Gloucester Township Police Department and became a sponsor of the Family Resource Center. In early spring, 2017, construction of four raised beds began. Kids came together, vegetables were planted and a weekly Children’s Group began. The next step is to create a free, outdoor Children’s Lend-Borrow Library Station with dedicated reading area on site.
At the 2010 Kiwanis International Convention, the Eliminate Project was announced. Beginning in 2011, Kiwanis International partnered with UNICEF to eliminate Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the face of the Earth.
MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care. Mothers and children die quickly after childbirth. Babies become sensitive to light and touch, are in excruciating pain, and refuse any sustenance.
MNT can be prevented. The 3 shot regimen that protects mothers and their unborn children costs $1.80 total. Adults often spend more than this on a cup of coffee a day. Can you afford to save the life of a mother and ALL of her unborn children?
So how can you help? There are a number of ways you can play a role in the elimination of MNT.
The Eliminate Project home page On the right side of the page there is a button that says "GIVE." Follow the directions on that page and give directly to the project.
